Dolls: a brief history
What is a doll? The dictionary defines the word simply as a toy for a child is made to look like a man. But The owner, a doll can be much more than just a toy. Dolls are part of human existence since prehistoric times and on different roles in different generations and cultures. Other than toys, dolls are also used to symbolize religious figures. Dolls in ancient times were generally made of clay, fur, or wood. The discovery of dolls in Egyptian tombs led to the conclusion that these were very special property indeed. In ancient Greek and Roman traditions were dedicated to goddesses dolls when their owners were too grown- to play with them. Like the Egyptians, they were buried with Greek and Roman children.
Most of the dolls found in the tombs were very simple Figures are often made from rags, wood or clay and sometimes even bone. The more unique dolls were made of ivory, and was, making them much more lifelike than the others. This tendency to making dolls look as lifelike as possible led to the idea of making them with moving limbs. This innovation took place sometime in 600 BC It was also during this period that dolls with removable clothing started to be made.
Europe, then became a major player in the pop production industry in the 16th and 17th centuries. The dolls made during this era were mostly wooden stump dolls, of which fewer than 30 today. One of the most recognizable puppets in this period was the pin wooden doll made in Germany. This doll had peg joints and many looked like a clothespin. In the year 1800, a mixture of wood pulp or paper began to be used as an alternative to solid wood. These mixtures were easy to form under pressure and made it easy for manufacturers to mass produce dolls. Paper mache was the most popular among these mixtures.
Wax Dolls were growing in popularity in the 17th and 18th century, with Munich as the center of production. The most unique wax dolls, however, were made in England between the years 1850 and 1930. In fact, one of the first baby doll was a doll made in England at the beginning of the 19th century. Porcelain dolls grew in popularity during this period as well. The term porcelain is usually used to refer to China and bisque dolls. The main difference between the two is that China is glazed bisque whereas closer to the skin.
The famous French pop and "bebe" which depicted a young girl, was first created in the 1850s and became popular in the 1880s. Today is one of the most sought after dolls. Rag dolls, made by mothers for their little ones for several centuries, were first introduced commercially in the 1850s by both American and English manufacturers. Here are some of the most beloved dolls of all time. Making dolls officially an industry in the United States in the year 1860, just after the Civil War. And just after the Second World War, manufacturers began to experiment Plastic as a material for making dolls.
Other materials such as rubber and vinyl came quickly as easily be used. Vinyl specially made an impact because it allowed doll makers to root hair directly into the head of a doll. But no matter what material is used, one thing is certain: Dolls are an integral part of the history of mankind.

A question for those who grew up in the 80s: cling vinyl "stickers"?
I remember playing with these things that were small, vinyl-like stickers. My sisters and I had Doll Dress Up ones and my brother had been a GI Joe. It clings would stick to the subject they came in perfect for traveling. We will travel by air soon and I wanted to find this little toy for our children. Everyone knows what they are called or even what I can put into a search engine to find them? Where can I buy them?
