The spectacular musical "Wicked" is based on the novel "Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witches of the West by Gregory Maguire. He creates a fantasy world where animals talk and there are many imaginary characters like the Munchkins. He it all sound so real and alive. The main story is based on the Wicked Witches of the famous novel "The Wizard of Oz".
The story deals the witches life much before Dorothy comes to Oz. The protagonist is Elphaba, a little girl with green skin who grows up to become the Wicked Witch of the West. The Wizard is believe that Elphaba is a wicked witch and make everyone believe him. The truth is that she's just a very smart girl who is misunderstood. She shows the audience a whole new concept of good and evil. The Wizard because of his beliefs eventually leads to the little green girl to be the Wicked Witch. Glinda, the Good Witch, is beautiful and is considered much better. The meeting of Glinda and Elphaba begin the game.
The characters of the game are the same as in the Wizard of Oz. You have the Tin Man, the Scarecrow, the Cowardly Lion and the Wizard himself. The game contains simplified parts of the novel and is not the whole story of the novel. It's a spectacular show of colorful costumes, beautiful music and humorous dialogues. It entertains children and adults.
The musical "Wicked" is performed in many of the top theaters in the country. They have shows in Chicago, New York and Boston. With a stellar cast of Ben Vereen, Rue McClanahan, Shoshana Bean and Megan Hilty, the Land of Oz is brought to life and the public remains enthralled throughout the show. The music is by Academy Award-winner Stephen Shwartz and lyrics by Tony Award winner Wayne Cilento. The director, Tony Award winner Joe Mantello, has blew life into the story and the "Wicked" one of the finest musicals of the year.
The play took more than two years to materialize and it involved more than 150 people to get together. The set took more than one year and half to do in Calgary, Ontario. Once it was done, had to be transported all the way to the Curran Theatre in San Francisco. The initial production was 14 million U.S. dollars, but more than recovered the cost in the first year by grossing $ 56,000,000. It turned out to be a theatrical masterpiece and a super hit.
The "Wicked" is playing for a full-house audience every week and is performed in many cities. Fans thronging to the theater to witness this spectacular production.
