Eye Care Tips for Winter
During the winter your eyes a higher risk of either temporarily or permanently damaged by UV rays. The UV rays are not only from the sun but is also reflected by the Earth's surface. You need to protect your eyes from UV radiation. American Academy of Ophthalmology has suggested few tips eye care for winter.
With the advent of winter, most people do not feel the need to ensure their eyes. They believe that comprehensive eye care is needed during the summer season. It is very essential for you to protect your eyes from harmful ultraviolet radiation (UV rays).
During the winter UV radiation not only from the sky, but also reflected by the Earth's surface. UV-ray exposure in the winter can temporarily harm your eyes and eye diseases like cataract may develop. Not only the sun affects your eyes, but the other culprits are dry air and cool breeze.
Here are some tips for winter Eye Care proposed by the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
- During the winter the indoor stoves tend to use the air-fluid irritation and dryness can cause your eyes dry. It is recommended that a humidifier in your house to use during winter. This would be useful in tolerating the forced air heating and holding Dry your eyes moist.
- Use sunglasses that are capable of blocking 99-100% of UV rays, especially when the land is snow covered. Remember that sunlight reflected from snow can cause burning eyes. Overexposed eyes to UV rays from the sun during the winter may cause temporary damage such photokeratitis. So it is advisable for you to a high quality UV-blocking sunglasses to use.
- If you use contact lenses it is advisable for you to use artificial tears frequently and limit your outdoor exposures. If you use soft lenses or limit your alcohol. Remember that soft lenses and require much moisture as they tend to stick to dry and then changing the shape of your eyes.
- This advice is especially for snow lovers as they spend much time in the snow. They are at a higher risk of temporary eye problems develop so they must use a few well-equipped ski goggles with polycarbonate lenses.
- To protect the tear film evaporation is recommended to use hood hat and rim your eyes when they prevent cold winds.
- Bring a good quality eye cream around the eyes as it will be helpful in protecting the delicate eyes from the harsh winter.
